Project 2000 Education & Consulting Group.

Preschool Overview and Educational Philosophy

At Project 2000, we recognize that a child’s earliest years are an important foundation for future learning and development. Our preschool and family childcare program in Kent, Washington, creates a child-friendly environment where children can learn through hands-on experiences, meaningful interactions, exploration, and play.

We believe children learn best when they feel respected, supported, and encouraged to discover the world around them. Our approach nurtures development across social-emotional, physical, language, literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and creative learning while giving children opportunities to build confidence and develop skills for school and life.

Age Groups We Serve

Project 2000 Preschool is a licensed preschool and family childcare, serving children from birth through 13 years of age, with a particular strength in caring for children from infancy through age 5 or until they enter kindergarten. Families with school-age children may also qualify for an exception when they have an enrolled preschooler.

The program is designed to meet children where they are developmentally, recognizing that every child brings unique strengths, interests, experiences, and ways of learning.

Celebrating Milestones

Every family cherishes those special moments when a child smiles for the first time, takes those first steps, or says their first words. Routine developmental screenings with early childhood professionals can help families understand their child’s progress, recognize important milestones, and celebrate each stage of development. At Project 2000, we provide an initial developmental screening when a child enrolls in our childcare program in Kent, Washington, while working alongside parents to support their child’s ongoing growth and development.

Ongoing Child Assessment

We conduct regular child assessments using the Teaching Strategies Gold assessment tool while working with you, the parent, to support your child’s growth and development.

Diaper Services

In our program, parents do not need to bring diapers or wipes for their children. We supply diapers and wipes for children in care and for parents to bring home when needed.

Free Books and Home Activities

To continue learning at home, we offer parents home activities and resources to support learning experiences. Please ask your teacher about resources you may need to continue learning at home.

Invitation to Our Family Music Program

Project 2000 is also a licensed Music Together center offering high quality music and movement experiences for families. For 1 year beginning January 2024, we offered our family music program to families with children infant to 6 at no cost through a generous grant from the Gathering Collaborative addressing Racism as a Public Health Crisis.

This music program is offered separately from the daycare’s regular services. Sessions are available in the Spring, Winter, and Fall, with each program running for 8 weeks.

For more Music Together locations: www.musictogether.com.

Meals

We serve 3 meals daily, including Breakfast, Lunch and PM Snacks. Meals provided through our program meet nutrition standards established by USDA’s Child and Adult Food Program.

Building Skills for School and Life

Project 2000 places strong emphasis on the early experiences that help children develop a foundation for school and beyond. Through play, purposeful interactions, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences, children are encouraged to explore, communicate, solve problems, express ideas, and build relationships.

Teachers observe children regularly and document what they see and hear, using those observations to understand children’s development and share meaningful information with families. Learning experiences are designed to challenge children without creating unnecessary frustration, while educators acknowledge children’s efforts and encourage them as they work through new experiences.

Social-Emotional Learning

Children are supported in developing relationships, expressing themselves, working through challenges, and interacting respectfully with others. Educators take time to get to know each child and respond to their ideas, efforts, and individual learning needs.

Language and Literacy

Stories, reading, communication, and language-rich experiences are part of the daily learning environment. The program also supports home language and literacy as part of its commitment to respecting the cultures and experiences children and families bring to the classroom.

Mathematics and Science

Children encounter early mathematics and science concepts through hands-on learning, exploration, group activities, and everyday experiences. These opportunities encourage curiosity, problem-solving, observation, and active participation.

Creative Learning and Play

Play provides children with opportunities to make choices, explore ideas, interact with their environment, and express themselves creatively. Project 2000’s current curriculum approach uses children’s natural interest in their surroundings as part of the learning experience.

A Curriculum That Encourages Exploration

Project 2000 currently identifies FunShine Express as its professionally designed early learning curriculum for children ages 0–5. The program emphasizes learning through interaction with the environment and uses activities designed to make early learning engaging and meaningful.

Family Partnership and Communication

Families are an important part of a child’s learning experience. Project 2000 uses Lillio, formerly HiMama, to help educators and families stay connected through real-time updates and ongoing communication.

Depending on the program and current platform configuration, families may receive information such as:

  • Photos and videos
  • Daily reports
  • Activity schedules
  • Developmental observations and assessments
  • Family messages
  • Newsletters

This communication helps families stay informed about their child’s experiences and development throughout the day.

A Respectful and Inclusive Learning Environment

Project 2000 recognizes that every child and family brings unique strengths, cultures, experiences, and perspectives. The program’s diversity and inclusion approach supports children’s home languages and literacy while encouraging respect for differences and celebrating the ways children and families are connected.

For families who wish to incorporate faith into their child’s learning, the current program also notes a “grow your faith” component for its Christian community.

Tuition, Subsidies, and Care Options

Project 2000 currently states that it accepts all subsidy programs. The program also distinguishes between full-time, part-time, and drop-in care based on the number of days and hours of care needed.
